The Woman Underneath

A Mixed media print series with a hyperrealistic approach to explore women's true identity underneath players of synthetic textures: Cracked, Frozen, Plastered, and finally Broken through.

Be it self imposed or societal, cultural expectations to be "good," "pretty," or "successful," and "having it all;" I cannot recall when do I get to see women including myself as who we are, without layering any of these artifices.

To represent these layers of synthetic textures, I decided to digitally manipulate real life textures into "skins" that were then blended with my hand illustration of the subject.

Despite their hard shell look and sometimes porous surface, each texture was used to accent the emotional state of each woman. Sometimes they blended perfectly, other times they looked just like an ill-fitted body armor that lock us in.
